Spain won the Women's World Cup for the first time with a goal from Olga Carmona in the first half, giving La Roja a 1-0 victory over England in today's final.
Both teams played in the final for the first time, and the victory granted the Spanish women their first major international title and avenged their loss to the reigning champions England in the quarter-finals of last year's European Championship.
