The Zahle prison in eastern Lebanon witnessed a state of tension today, Friday, October 6, 2023, following a rebellion carried out by several inmates, who took one of the security forces officers responsible for the prison's protection hostage.
The rebels also set fire to several prison rooms, resulting in the deaths of 4 inmates and a large number of injuries. Smoke was seen rising from the windows due to the fire.
Lebanese firefighting and civil defense vehicles arrived at the prison to extinguish the fire and evacuate the injured.
