It seems that Canada has lost its attractiveness in attracting skilled workers, as the escalating cost of living crisis and lack of rental options are leading to reverse migration, undermining the policies of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government.
According to official figures, about 42,000 people left Canada in the first six months of 2023, in addition to 93,818 people who left Canada in 2022 and 85,927 who left in 2021.
Data from Statistics Canada showed that although the numbers of reverse migration declined during the coronavirus lockdown, the trend has accelerated again.
Many workers said that the rising cost of living makes it difficult for them to live in Canada, which is suffering from an aging population and relies on immigrants to boost the economy.
Adding to their misery is the rising housing costs, which push many to avoid obtaining permanent residency in Canada.
