Four family members lost their lives after a construction project turned into a tragic disaster over the weekend in the Saint-Laurent area of Quebec, according to local police.
Investigators said that two men and two women were working on a new home on Saturday in the rural municipality of Saint-Léandre, which has a population of less than 400, when a crane fell on them for unknown reasons.
Stephan Tremblay, a spokesperson for the local police, also stated that one of the victims died on the scene while three others were severely injured and taken to the hospital but died overnight.
Tremblay confirmed on Monday that all four were from the same family.
Among the victims was a 27-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman from Saint-Léandre, as well as a 53-year-old woman and a 60-year-old man from Rivière-du-Loup.
Officials also stated that a coroner's investigation is ongoing, while an investigation by the Quebec Occupational Health and Safety Board aims to determine whether there was a malfunction of equipment.
