Saudi Arabia's national team turned the tables on their Argentine counterpart and defeated them 2-1 in the match that brought them together today, Tuesday, within the first round of Group C in the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
 

Saleh Al-Shehri and Salem Al-Dawsari scored Saudi Arabia's goals in the 48th and 53rd minutes after Lionel Messi gave Argentina the lead from a penalty in the 10th minute before 88,000 spectators.
 

The group also includes Mexico and Poland who will meet later.
 

Saudi Arabia broke a jinx that had followed them in their previous five participations in opening matches, where they failed to win any of them (4 losses and one draw), before achieving a resounding victory today.

Saudi Arabia also prevented Argentina from equalizing the record for the number of matches without defeat, as the "Albiceleste" tally stopped at 36 matches, knowing that they would have matched the record held by Italy if they had avoided defeat in today's match.
