Halton Regional Police spent hours on Wednesday morning working to contain millions of bees that fell from a truck on the road in Burlington this morning.
A small truck transporting bee boxes on a flatbed lost its load on Guelph Line, north of Dundas Street.
The officers responded quickly and warned drivers to keep their windows closed while passing through.
Aerial footage of the scene showed people wearing white beekeeping suits placing dozens of boxes back on the flatbed, and according to the police, the truck was transporting about five million bees.
Police said in a social media post on Wednesday morning, "Thanks to the quick response from beekeepers coming to help, we expect the scene to be clear in about 30 (minutes),"
"The majority of the bees have been safely collected and the boxes will be removed."
Pedestrians were also warned to avoid the area entirely as there were still a number of bees in the surrounding area.
Police said they left some boxes in the area for the bees to return, warning, "Do not approach or touch the boxes that have been left for the bees, they will be collected once the bees return."..
