It is unfortunate to see an increase in the number of people needing assistance from food banks in Ottawa. The record numbers reported by the Ottawa Food Bank reflect the significant challenges many families face amidst the ongoing rise in food and living costs.

It is concerning that one in four families in Ottawa is now experiencing food insecurity, which represents a significant jump from the previous rate of one in seven families.

The efforts of the Ottawa Food Bank and CTV Morning Live through the Holiday Helpers campaign are an important step in supporting those in need during the holiday season.

However, the need to declare food insecurity an emergency in the city stands out as a pressing issue to address the worsening situation. Rachel Wilson's statements regarding the Ottawa City Council's refusal to declare a state of emergency highlight the need for more action from government authorities to empower the community to access the support it requires.

Hope is pinned on increasing awareness and community engagement to support the Ottawa Food Bank through donations, whether financial or in-kind.
