A thunderstorm swept through Ottawa this Friday afternoon, causing damage to trees and power outages in several parts of the city.
The Canadian Ministry of the Environment issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Ottawa, noting the drop in temperatures, heavy rainfall, and strong winds.
Residents of Westboro, Alta Vista, Vanier, and other areas of Ottawa reported a drop in temperature and heavy rain falling between 3:30 PM and 4:30 PM. The storm brought down tree branches in several streets.
Hydro Ottawa reported power outages in City View, Courtland Park, McKellar Heights, McKellar Park, and Woodruff. No information was available on when electricity would be restored.
The severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect for the city of Ottawa, with heavy rainfall and very strong winds expected this afternoon.
Forecasts call for showers or some thunderstorms starting this afternoon. High of 29 degrees Celsius, with humidity making it feel like 37 degrees.
Rain showers are expected to end this evening, with partially cloudy skies and a 40% chance of showers. Low of 17 degrees Celsius.
Saturday will be cloudy with a chance of morning showers followed by a mix of sun and clouds. High of 24 degrees Celsius.
Forecasts for Saturday call for sunshine and a high of 24 degrees Celsius, with sunny conditions on Monday and a high of 22 degrees Celsius.
