Agencies - 72 percent of Canadians surveyed by Leger and the Canadian Studies Association said they are not comfortable flying since some airlines decided to relax their physical distancing requirements during the flight. As of July 1, both Air Canada and WestJet ended policies preventing the sale of adjacent seats.
This measure was issued to align with a guideline document for airlines issued by the Canadian Transportation Agency in April to help curb the spread of COVID-19. Among other things, the agency suggested that distances should be widely spaced when possible, although they did not make it mandatory. However, airlines are required to ensure passengers and flight crews wear masks.
Conversely, only 22 percent of those surveyed said they are comfortable boarding the plane without any physical distancing during the flight and mask-wearing requirements.
WestJet said in a statement last week after critics attacked its plan, that it plans more measures to maintain the safety of flights.
