Residents of Ontario can now obtain treatment and medications for six additional common ailments at pharmacies across the province.
This announcement was made by Deputy Premier and Health Minister Sylvia Jones in Etobicoke this morning, Sunday.
Jones said on Sunday: “By expanding the list of common ailments that pharmacists can treat, people will now have faster and more convenient access to the care they need close to home, while helping to reduce wait times in our clinics and community hospitals.”
The six new ailments—acne, cold sores, rashes, yeast infections, parasitic worms, and morning sickness—will be added to the existing 19 ailments, a list of which can be found on the ministry's website.
Pharmacists in Ontario have been able to prescribe medications and treat common ailments since January 1, 2023. According to the Ministry of Health, 89 percent of pharmacies in Ontario have participated in the program, providing over 400,000 assessments.
Jones also confirmed on Saturday that residents will only need their OHIP card to access services, “never your credit card.”
She said: “Under Premier Ford, this will never change.”
The recent changes made by the province have allowed pharmacists to administer selected injections and inhalation therapies, such as insulin or vitamin B12 injections or osteoporosis treatments, for “professional fees.”
