The toll of the heavy rains that fell on areas in northern Istanbul last night has risen to 3 dead, while the search for 3 missing persons continues.
The sudden rainfall flooded many houses and caused road closures in the Başakşehir and Küçükçekmece areas.
The authorities rescued about ten people after they were stranded inside a library, while some metro stations were closed.
The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) issued a warning of heavy rains and storms in Istanbul, starting tonight and continuing until tomorrow morning.
Meanwhile, the heavy rains caused severe traffic congestion after flooding several city roads.
Severe rainstorms hit Turkey, Greece, and Bulgaria on Tuesday, leading to floods that resulted in the deaths of at least 7 people, including two campers swept away by a torrent that hit a campsite in northwestern Turkey.
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that 4 people are missing after floods swept through the camping site located in the Kırklareli area near the border with Bulgaria.
He added that about 12 campers were at the site when the floods arrived.
The minister noted on his official account on X, formerly Twitter, that search teams found two bodies, stating that "the search and rescue efforts for the four missing persons are ongoing without interruption".
Television footage showed rescuers carrying a small girl and an adult after they were saved from waters that reached waist-deep in some areas.
The "Haber Türk" television channel reported that the rains also caused material damages, including the closure of a major road.
