The data released by the U.S. Census Bureau on Wednesday showed a positive outlook for new home sales data, as it was worse than market expectations during September.
New home sales requests registered about 759 thousand requests, which is higher than the expectations that indicated it would register about 678 thousand only, and the previous reading of the index had recorded about 676 thousand requests in August, after being revised from 675 thousand requests.
It is noteworthy that the new home sales index measures the annual change in the number of new homes that were sold during the previous months, and is considered a leading indicator of the health of the economy because new home sales have significant impacts on the economy. For example, furniture and appliances are purchased, mortgages are sold through financing banks, and agents are paid to complete the transactions of these homes.
At the same time, new home sales data in the United States tend to have a significant impact when released simultaneously with existing home sales index data, as both reports are closely linked to each other.
