The regional transportation agency for the Montreal area, ARTM, announced that it will change prices on July 1st, with an increase of 3 percent and monthly passes rising:
. Area A (Montreal Island): prices will reach 100 dollars up from 97 dollars. Area AB from Montreal to Laval will be 160 dollars, up from 155 dollars, and Area ABC from Montreal to North & South1 will be 96 dollars, up from 190 dollars.
The price of a single bus or metro ticket for Montreal Island will remain the same at 3.75 dollars; however, the package of 10 tickets will increase by 75 cents to 33.25 dollars.
This increase comes amid a deficit in transportation companies across the province, including an estimated deficit of about 561 million dollars in the metropolitan Montreal area.
The general manager of ARTM, Benoit Jindrón, said that public transportation faces significant funding challenges, and despite this, the annual fare update is responsible and designed to protect access to various services for all residents.
