The National Institute of Public Health (INSPQ) said on Wednesday that the sixth wave of COVID-19 has officially started in Quebec.
Canada will conduct a survey to learn more about "Long COVID" syndrome, a syndrome that is still not well understood. In the study, starting this week, 100,000 randomly selected people across the country will be asked to complete an online survey and provide a blood sample.
This study will be very rich in data and may allow us to hypothesize possible treatments, “rejoices Dr. Emilia Falcon” who founded the Montreal Post-COVID Clinic at the Montreal Clinical Research Institute (IRCM).
The government hopes this study will enable the assessment of the long-term spread of COVID-19 in Canada, with information obtained on risk factors, symptoms, and the impact of this syndrome on daily life.
Currently, information related to post-Coronavirus syndrome remains limited; moreover, in this regard, Canada's Chief Public Health Officer, Dr. Theresa Tam, recently noted in a press release.
"Deepening our knowledge of COVID-19, including its long-term effects, is critical to our response to the pandemic and our recovery," agrees federal Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos.
This research will also aim to better understand the effects of the pandemic on the health and well-being of Canadians. The possibility of accessing healthcare will also be studied.
Anil Arora, Chief Statistician at Statistics Canada, states that "researchers and policymakers still need important information to understand not only the virus as such, but also its social, economic, and health repercussions."
