The Ottawa court is expected to hear today the final arguments for the acquittal of two members of the defense team for the leaders of the "Freedom Convoy".
Tamara Lich and Chris Barber face criminal charges for their roles in organizing the protest in 2022, which brought huge crowds and thousands of large trucks to downtown Ottawa for weeks, opposing the pandemic restrictions.
The two have been charged with mischief, intimidation, and advising others to break the law, but their trial has been legally complex and marked by dozens of motions and delays since it began last September.
Today marks the fourth day of the closing arguments, and the court is expected to hear first from Barber's lawyer before Lich's legal team presents their closing arguments.
Barber's attorney, Diane Magas, told the court last week that her client is not responsible for the individual actions of protesters.
The prosecution has already informed the court that the two "crossed the line" knowingly between lawful protest and unlawful mischief, but they will have the opportunity to respond to the defense's arguments before the trial concludes.
