A statistic conducted in Italy showed that the indicators for absolute poverty grew by 9.7% in 2022, affecting 5.6 million people.

Furthermore, the data released last Wednesday by the Italian National Institute of Statistics (Istat) regarding poverty indicated that "a little over 2.18 million households are experiencing extreme poverty (8.3% of the total compared to 7.7% in 2021), marking an increase from the 9.1% recorded the previous year."

The data mentioned that "this aggravation is largely attributed to the significant acceleration in inflation," noting that "the severity of absolute poverty measured as a percentage of the monthly spending of poor households calculated below the poverty line on average shows a slight decline at the national level (18.2% down from 18.9% in 2021), with varying trends depending on the classification of categories."

The Istat report also stated that the aforementioned trends were "largely stable in the north," while "declining in the center to a rate of 17.1%, down from 18.2% in 2021," and also "in the south, to 19.3%, down from 20.7% in the same year."
