An Italian statistical report revealed that "according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (Istat), there are 1.6 million foreign residents living in extreme poverty in the country, which exceeds a total of 614,000 families."

The report from the organizations (Caritas) and (Migrants) affiliated with the Italian Bishops' Conference on migration, issued on Tuesday, titled: "Free to choose migration or staying," stated that "migrant families struggling with poverty account for about one-third of poor families in Italy," even though they "represent only 9% of resident families." Meanwhile, "the percentage of those who cannot reach a decent standard of living among foreigners is five times the percentage recorded among Italian families."

The report also pointed out that "the poverty rate is striking among foreign families with minor children, reaching 36.2%," which is "more than 4 times the average of Italian families with minors," which stands at 8.3%.

The report from the two church organizations noted that "in 2022, the number of foreigners received by the listening centers of (Caritas) and the computerized services alone was 145,292," out of "a total of 255,957 individuals," which "confirms the widespread material difficulties in the aforementioned year."
