The Israeli ambassador in Ottawa said that Israel is "pleased" that Canada has joined the United States and France in believing that the explosion that occurred at a hospital in Gaza City last week was caused by a stray missile from within the Gaza Strip.

"The loss of life at the Arab National Hospital was a tragedy that should horrify any human being, and it is a reminder of the double war crimes being committed by Hamas and other terrorist groups in Gaza against both Palestinians and Israelis," he said in a statement.

This missile that hit the hospital on October 17 has become a new flashpoint in the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, with both sides blaming each other for this tragedy.

Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair issued a statement late Saturday night saying that the independent analysis conducted by Canadian forces gives the government a "high degree of confidence" that the missile did not come from Israel.

Canada has also been slower than some of its allies to reach this conclusion. During a visit to Tel Aviv on October 18, U.S. President Joe Biden said that U.S. defense intelligence showed the missile came from inside Gaza, and France stated that its military reached the same conclusion on October 20.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau asked Blair on October 17 to request the Canadian military to conduct its own assessment. On October 19, he stated that Canada had seen some "preliminary evidence" but would take "the necessary time to carefully consider" and work with allies to reach a definitive conclusion.

The Canadian military assessment provided its initial report on Saturday, and Blair and Trudeau were briefed on the findings before Blair announced his conclusion shortly before 10 PM.

The Canadian government has assisted 33 people in exiting the West Bank and approximately 1,600 in exiting Israel since the conflict began, and a final military evacuation flight from Tel Aviv is expected to take off on Monday.
