The Saudi Press Agency "SPA" mentioned that an agreement was reached between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran to resume diplomatic relations between the two countries and reopen their embassies and missions within a maximum period of two months.
Reuters quoted the Iranian news agency (IRNA) as saying: "The two countries agreed to resume diplomatic relations and reopen the embassies within two months."
On the other hand, there was no immediate confirmation of the report from Saudi media.
Saudi Arabia had cut its relations with Iran in 2016 after its embassy in Tehran was stormed during a dispute between the two countries over Riyadh's execution of a Shiite cleric.
Iranian media quoted what it described as a joint statement between Iran, Saudi Arabia, and China saying that the two countries "affirm respect for sovereignty and non-interference in each other's internal affairs."
