The occupation army reported on Sunday that a tank belonging to it accidentally fired at an Egyptian site adjacent to the border near the Karam Abu Salem area.

It mentioned in a statement: "A tank of the Defense Army fired its weapon by mistake and hit an Egyptian site near the border in the Karam Abu Salem area."

The statement also indicated that the incident "is under investigation and details are being reviewed. The army regrets this incident."

A statement from the spokesperson of the Egyptian armed forces on Facebook stated that: "During the ongoing clashes in the Gaza Strip on Sunday... one of the Egyptian border monitoring towers was hit by shrapnel from an Israeli tank by mistake, resulting in minor injuries to some of the border monitoring personnel. The Israeli side expressed its regret for the unintentional incident immediately after it occurred, and investigations into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing."

Reuters had reported, quoting eyewitnesses, an explosion and the sound of ambulances near the Rafah crossing between Egypt and Gaza on Sunday afternoon.

The agency stated that the explosion occurred shortly after a second aid convoy entered the crossing from the Egyptian side.

The exact cause and location of the explosion have not yet been clarified, according to the agency.
