At the beginning of April, the American Forbes magazine issued its list of the world's billionaires for 2023, and Alan Bouchard, founder of Alimentation Couche-Tard, Lino Saputo, former president of Saputo Dairy Company, and Jean Coutu, president of Jean Coutu, natives of Quebec province, occupied ranks on Forbes' list of the richest 1000 people.
With a net worth estimated at 6,000,000,000 USD as of April 4, 2023, 74-year-old Bouchard ranked seventh in Canada and 425 globally. 86-year-old Saputo (estimated net worth: 4.9 billion USD) ranked 12th in Canada and 552nd in the world, while 95-year-old Coutu's wealth is estimated at 3 billion USD, placing him 23rd among Canada's richest and 982nd globally.
The richest man in Canada (ranked 22nd globally) is David Thomson of Toronto, chairman of Thomson Reuters, with Forbes estimating that he and his family own a net worth of 54.4 billion USD as of April 4.
Also, in second place in Canada (167th globally) with a net worth estimated at 10.5 billion USD came Changpeng Zhao, founder of Binance.
From Vancouver, Jim Pattison, CEO of the Jim Pattison Group (9.5 billion USD), ranked third nationally and 202nd globally.
Also, in third place globally, with an estimated net worth of 114 billion USD, came the founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, and in second place was the founder of SpaceX and CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk (180 billion USD).
Forbes magazine has identified Bernard Arnault, chairman of LVMH, as the richest person in the world in 2023, with his and his family's net worth reaching 211 billion USD as of April 4.
