The full moon of June, the last full moon of spring and the beginning of summer, known as the "Strawberry Moon," will appear over three days, the last of which is tomorrow, Sunday, and it will be at its peak fullness on the evening of today, Saturday.
The title "Strawberry" for this full moon does not come from its color as expected but from its coincidence with the ripening of strawberries in North America. The strawberry in question is the Virginia strawberry that grows naturally throughout the United States and Canada, and it is different from the European strawberry.
Old Farmer’s Almanac, a reference book containing information about weather, agriculture, astronomy, and even folklore, indicates that the name is one of the nicknames used by the Algonquin Native American tribes for this full moon, and it explains that other groups such as the Ojibwe, Dakota, and Lakota peoples also used the name.
