The remnants of Hurricane "Nichole" caused heavy rainfall over a large part of southern Quebec and the Atlantic Canada. The Canadian Environment Ministry said on Friday that Nichole will merge overnight with a cold front and follow the Maritimes path. New Brunswick is expected to receive up to 70 mm of rain by morning.

The agency also says that rain and winds will occur over the Maritimes, including Nova Scotia, which is expected to experience winds reaching 60 kilometers per hour.

Rainfall of up to 100 mm is also expected in parts of southern Newfoundland, with wind speeds reaching 100 kilometers per hour in the Wreckhouse area of the province.

The meteorological agency also says the fall storm will hit Quebec starting Friday night, leading to rainfall of up to 100 mm in the southern part of the province. Snowfall is expected in parts of central and eastern Quebec, including the Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean, Gaspésie, and Côte-Nord regions. Newfoundland will also see some snowfall.

In the same context, Jean-Philippe Bégin, an environmental meteorologist at the Canadian Environment Ministry, says southern Quebec may also experience the season's first snowfall overnight from Sunday to Monday.

The agency says high water levels and wave activity will occur over the northern Gulf of Saint Lawrence, affecting northeastern New Brunswick and the Gaspé area, and may cause some minor flooding.
