The weather affected many areas in southern Saskatchewan on Thursday, with high temperatures recorded along with strong winds. Coronach experienced winds reaching 94 km/h on Thursday, according to a preliminary report on the weather condition in Canada.

The community also recorded a new temperature record of 38.6 degrees Celsius — breaking the previous record of 37.2 degrees Celsius set in 1964.

The Coronach Golf Club spent Friday morning cleaning up, after the winds hit trees and scattered debris across the course, according to a group posted on Facebook. The club was closed during cleanup but reopened Friday afternoon.

Dennis Hicks, president of Coronach Golf Club, said: "It's a big process because we don't have a large number of staff." "We rely on volunteers to come help us and of course everyone else in town was trying to clean up their yard."

A few insurance claims, mostly for exclusive damages, were submitted to Coronach agencies as of Friday afternoon, according to insurance broker Cal Martin, who is also the town's mayor.

Three other areas also recorded temperature records on Thursday, including Assiniboia (37.7 degrees Celsius), Lucky Lake (36.7 degrees Celsius), and Rocklyn (37.5 degrees Celsius). Environment Canada notes that the information in its weather summaries is preliminary or unofficial.
