Ford recently announced a recall of hundreds of thousands of its latest Ford pickup trucks in Canada and the United States due to a defect in the electric parking brakes.

This recall, which includes 870,000 F-150 trucks from model years 2021-2023, comes after a danger of unexpected activation of the electric brakes in those trucks was discovered.

The issue stems from the rear wiring harness potentially contacting the rear axle cover, which may lead to overheating of the wires and could result in an electrical short, which in turn activates the parking brakes without any action from the driver.

While the Ford spokesperson did not clarify the number of affected vehicles in the recall, he confirmed that the recall also applies to 2021-23 models with single exhaust systems.

According to media reports, Ford's small truck from the F series is the best-selling vehicle in the United States, while the company did not mention the popularity of its vehicles in Canada, but the recall includes vehicles from the Canadian market as well.

It was not stated whether anyone has been injured due to the issue in the United States or Canada, but Ford has 918 warranty claims and three field reports of wire overheating, about a third of which are related to the operation of the parking brakes, and in 19 cases, this occurred while the trucks were on the road.

Ford Canada also urged Canadian drivers in an email to monitor for certain signals, stating that if there is a warning light for the parking brakes or a message, the customer should visit the local dealer for repairs.

Those seeking more information can contact Ford's customer service team at 18005653673 in Canada and 18664367332 in the United States.
