Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly confirmed on Tuesday that Canada plans to airlift Canadians from Israel "in the coming days."
Joly stated that the government will be using Canadian military aircraft to transport Canadians. Additionally, preparations are being made to arrange separate accommodations for those who cannot access Tel Aviv airport.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, Joly said that flights will be available for Canadian citizens and permanent residents along with their spouses and children.
Joly also added that Canadians residing in Israel should register with Global Affairs Canada during this time. Canadians in Israel can contact the department at sos@international.gc.ca or +1-613-996-8885.
The department also stated in a statement on Tuesday that it has received 785 requests for assistance since the beginning of the conflict between Israel and Hamas, most of which are inquiries related to travel advice, flight and airport status, general security situation, and information about family members.
Joly's statement did not mention the Gaza Strip.
There have also been requests from some Canadians to evacuate their loved ones from Hamas-controlled territories.
Both Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre expressed their strong support for Israel while condemning the Hamas attack.
