A recent report stated that the government issued a warning to former Immigration Minister Sean Fraser regarding allowing international students to work for more than 20 hours per week, which may distract them from focusing on their studies and reduce the objectives of temporary foreign worker programs.
The federal government was considering waiving the restrictions on the number of hours international students can work off-campus, and the federal government eventually approved this program.
