Durham Regional Police said a man died after being stabbed early this morning in a parking lot in Ajax while another man was taken to hospital after being hit by a car in the same parking lot. Officers responded to reports of a stabbing incident in a parking lot outside the King Castle Bar & Grill pub, located on Westney Road South near Clements Road West, at around 2 a.m. on Saturday. The police, through Sergeant Joan Portolos to CP24 at the scene, said two men got into a fight in a parking lot before the stabbing incident occurred. During that altercation, one of the men pulled a knife and stabbed the other, who was immediately transferred to the Intensive Care Unit at a hospital in the Toronto area where he later died from his injuries. Also, the police identified the victim as a 28-year-old man but have not yet released full details about him. The homicide unit has also taken over the investigation, where it was stated that at the same time as the crime, a pedestrian was hit by a car during the stabbing, who was also taken to Toronto trauma center in critical condition. In the same regard, one suspect was arrested, with Portolos saying: "The driver of the car is in police custody due to the driving incident, not the stabbing incident." The car involved in the crash was seen being driven away from the scene, with Portolos saying it is unclear whether the stabbing and the witness who was involved in the car incident are connected incidents or not. Portolos continued that they are reviewing physical evidence along with surveillance video evidence, hoping to gather all the evidence. He added that the homicide unit believes they know the identity of the suspect related to the stabbing but they are still in the early stages of the investigation and have not issued any description. Anyone with information or who witnessed the incident is asked to contact the police or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
