Milk prices in Canada may rise for the second time this year.
Dairy farmers in Canada have requested the Canadian Dairy Commission to raise milk prices mid-year due to the current inflationary environment.
Industry officials say that farmers are facing unprecedented increases in the prices of goods and services they need to produce milk.
Fertilizer costs have also risen by 44 percent in less than a year, fuel by 32 percent, and animal feed by eight percent.
The Canadian Dairy Commission says it will hold consultations later this month and issue its decision on June 17.
The federal body, which oversees the dairy industry and supply management system in Canada, says the milk price increase will take effect on September 1.
This will come after milk prices at the farm gate increased by six cents per liter, or nearly 8.4 percent, in February.
