Children will soon be able to ride public transit for free in Mississauga, Ontario, with significant discounts also offered to seniors.
The public transit agency “MiWay” has announced a one-year pilot program for children aged 6 to 12 and seniors aged 65 and over.
Also, starting May 1, children with a valid Presto card will be able to ride MiWay for free, while seniors will be able to purchase all-day tickets for $1.
This pilot program aims to encourage public transit ridership.
Also, to qualify for these pilot programs, passengers must have a valid Presto card with the correct fare type set based on their ages.
Passengers can purchase and reload Presto cards at TTC subway stations, GO Transit stations, Mississauga community centers, and the City Center Transit Terminal in Mississauga.
Additionally, MiWay is enhancing its Presto program, which will ensure all customers ride for free after paying for 11 trips in one calendar week (the minimum for free rides was 12 trips per calendar week).
Some MiWay fare prices will increase starting May 1, with the adult single Presto fare rising by 10 cents to $3.20, and the teen single Presto fare increasing to $2.45.
