Canadian Health Ministry officials said that large foreign supplies of ibuprofen and acetaminophen for children are expected to start appearing in pharmacies and retail shelves next week, adding that one million bottles of children's medications will be distributed to hospitals, pharmacies, and retailers after next week.
Hospitals, pharmacies, and parents with sick children have been experiencing shortages of Tylenol and Advil for children since spring, which worsened due to the early onset of influenza and respiratory syncytial virus along with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The officials said manufacturers increased production to record levels, but it still exceeds demand, and they have now approved three proposals to import foreign products, with supplies already arriving in the country.
Also, health officials were questioned about the shortage earlier this week by the Health Committee of the House of Commons, where members demanded answers about when it started, what is behind it, and who is to blame.
