Moderna Inc MRNA.O said on Thursday that Canada has authorized the use of the COVID-19 vaccine for children aged 6 to 11 years.

The vaccine, branded Spikevax, was recently approved for administration to children in the same age group in Australia and the European Union.

Moderna said last year that its two-dose vaccine generates antibodies in children aged 6 to 11 and that the safety profile was similar to that seen in clinical trials in teenagers and adults.

The vaccine, which is based on messenger RNA (mRNA) technology, has been approved in the United States for people aged 18 and older. The company is awaiting a decision from U.S. regulators on the use of its vaccine for children aged 12 to 17.

Rival Pfizer PFE.N’s COVID-19 vaccine has been approved in the United States for children as young as 5 years old.

Canada allowed the administration of Moderna’s vaccine to teenagers in August.
