Ottawa - Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly today announced a new package of sanctions against Vladimir Putin's regime, including a ban on importing Russian vodka, caviar, and diamonds.
This ban includes preventing the import of certain luxury goods from Russia such as alcoholic beverages, fish, and seafood.
Canada also prohibits exporting cigarettes and alcoholic beverages to Russia, as well as clothing, sneakers, and sportswear.
The sanctions package includes a ban on exporting jewelry, artworks, and even kitchen utensils from Canada to Russia.
Joly also imposes sanctions on 14 other individuals, including oligarchs connected to the Russian president's regime.
Among them is billionaire Alexander Lebedev, a former Soviet intelligence (KGB) agent who purchased two major newspapers in the United Kingdom.
