Zixy Lee, a resident of Ottawa who went to court last year to obtain an injunction against the convoy of truck drivers that closed major streets in downtown Ottawa from January 22 to February 23, 2022, repeatedly described the protest as an "occupation" during her testimony in court on October 16, which outraged the lawyers of the organizers of the protest and blockade.

Zixy Lee testified this morning, Monday, in the criminal trial of Tamara Lich and Chris Barber, who are charged with committing offenses and counseling others to commit offenses.

In her testimony, Zixy Lee used the term occupation to describe the protest in which trucks and many demonstrators blocked the streets of downtown Ottawa for three weeks in the winter of 2022.

However, Chris Barber's lawyer, Diane Magas, objected to the use of the term occupation, describing it as incendiary, especially since the witness is heavily involved in the case.

Lee is the representative in the class action lawsuit against the convoy organizers, on behalf of residents, workers, and business owners in downtown Ottawa.

The lawsuit claims that residents of the Canadian capital suffered harm when thousands of demonstrators took to the streets of Ottawa with trucks for three weeks.

Judge Heather Perkins-McVeigh told Lee that she preferred the terms protest or demonstration. However, she added that what the witness says in her statements is up to her.

Like many other witnesses called by the prosecution in this trial, Zixy Lee described on Monday the excessive noise made by the heavy trucks that honked their horns most of the day, sometimes all day long.

The class action lawsuit against the actions of the "Freedom Convoy" was filed by Zixy Lee, a young government employee from Ottawa.
