The police in Saskatchewan said that Meta's decision to remove news links from Facebook and Instagram will affect the way they convey information.

In the coming weeks, police forces will not be able to rely on local news appearing in people's social media feeds as they scroll.

The police in Saskatchewan also added that they are working through ways to distribute public safety messages using social media.

Meanwhile, other police forces have said they will use their current presence on social media to keep people informed, as Winnipeg Police said they would use their accounts to update people on missing persons or breaking news.

Meta is set to remove all news for Canadian users in response to the Liberal government's online news law, which requires certain tech giants to pay for news content that is shared or referred to on their platforms.
