Canada joins a three-month partnership with several key allies to send air defense missiles to Ukraine.

Defense Minister Bill Blair announced Canada's contribution of $33 million in the UK on Sunday during a visit to Canadian soldiers assisting in training Ukrainian recruits at the military training camp in Leeds.

The funds come from a fund that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the establishment of, worth $500 million, in June 2023 to ensure military assistance to Ukraine.

In the same month, the UK, Denmark, the Netherlands, and the United States established a partnership to deliver hundreds of short- and medium-range air defense missiles to help protect against Russian attacks and drone missiles.

For over a year, members of the Canadian Armed Forces have been conducting training courses in Leeds for about 2,600 Ukrainian recruits in weapon handling, battlefield first aid, and patrol tactics.

Canada has contributed $8 billion to Ukraine over the past year and a half, including $1.8 billion in military assistance that includes weapons, ammunition, military vehicles, drone cameras, and winter clothing.
