Canada imposed sanctions today, Monday, on 10 additional individuals in response to the Russian war in Ukraine based on the advice of Alexei Navalny, the biggest critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the new sanctions while in the United Kingdom alongside British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
The Canadian news network "Global News" quoted Trudeau as saying that the ten individuals are "complicit in this unjustified invasion." Their identities were not immediately disclosed.
He said: "This includes senior former and current government officials, the ruling class, and supporters of the Russian leadership." The names of these individuals came from a list compiled by the jailed opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
Trudeau was in the United Kingdom today, Monday, to meet Johnson and Rutte to begin his week in Europe where he will discuss Russia's war in Ukraine with Canada's allies.
Navalny called on Russians to organize daily protests against Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.
