British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said today, Wednesday, August 5, that Britain will provide a aid package to Beirut worth five million pounds sterling ($6.6 million), including contributions to search and rescue operations and specialized medical support.
Raab's statement came after his call with Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab.
He added, "We will stand by the Lebanese people in times of need, we will provide an urgent response and an aid package, search and rescue and humanitarian assistance amounting to five million pounds sterling, in addition to specialized medical support."
He further said, "The key thing at this time is that our support is specifically designed to meet the very specific needs I just discussed with the Lebanese Prime Minister."
Raab explained that the exact number of British citizens who are likely killed or injured in the explosion has not yet been confirmed.
