The Brazilian Federal Police accused President Jair Bolsonaro of discouraging the population from using masks during the pandemic and claiming that those who received the COVID-19 vaccines are at risk of contracting AIDS.
In a document sent to the Supreme Court in Brazil, a police commissioner said Bolsonaro's efforts to encourage non-compliance with pandemic precautionary measures amount to a crime, while his efforts to link AIDS to vaccination amount to misdemeanors.
The police requested the Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes, who is in charge of the investigation, to authorize charging Bolsonaro and others involved in the case.
In a live broadcast on social media last October, the far-right president, without providing any evidence, claimed that government reports showed that people fully vaccinated against COVID-19 contracted AIDS.
