Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre called for a unified nationwide testing process that would expedite licensing approvals for doctors and nurses.
Poilievre also said that the "blue seal" testing standard he proposed would allow qualified healthcare professionals to work in any province or territory where volunteers choose to be part of the program.
He described his plan at a press conference today, saying that the model, which allows professionals to take a test and receive an answer within 60 days, will address the ongoing shortage in Canada of healthcare professionals, such as family doctors and emergency room nurses.
The Conservative leader also added that the "blue seal" model is based on the "red seal" standard for skilled workers in regulated trades, including carpenters, heavy equipment operators, and industrial electricians.
Poilievre provided details of his proposal ahead of the federal government's latest financial plan, which will be presented to Parliament on March 28.
