The Italian embassy in Algeria and the Italian Cultural Institute in Algiers, in collaboration with the Algerian Ministry of Culture and Arts, will inaugurate on Thursday the exhibition "The Mediterranean - Visions of an Ancient and Complex Sea," at the Mufdi Zakaria Cultural Palace in Algeria.
The initiative is promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation along with the Italian Space Agency (ASI), Telespazio, and Gios from the Leonardo Group, and the Italian Med-Or Foundation, as well as the European Space Agency.
According to a press release from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the initiative falls within the framework of promotional activities for the Italian system and integrates nature, culture, art, innovation, technology, and sustainability, according to the Italian website "Decode 39."
The exhibition will remain open to the public until October 7, after which it will continue its journey in the Mediterranean, including Croatia and Spain.
The exhibition, designed under the sponsorship of Viviana Banachia, addresses the story, beauty, peoples, and contradictions threatening the Mediterranean.
The exhibition presents the Mediterranean in all its complexities through storytelling, with unclear satellite imagery, photos, videos, and site-specific installations that have a significant emotional impact, aspiring to achieve a blend of science and art.
The images were obtained from the Italian satellite Cosmo Sky Med, in addition to many satellites along the coasts of Europe, including Copernicus.
The exhibition offers a compelling vision of the Mediterranean from the ancient city to all the legendary islands, as well as the typical crops of olive trees and wheat, to the efforts made in North African regions to cultivate fields in the desert.
The exhibition aims to represent the state of the sea today by providing data and images that show clear signs of climate change, which are essential for helping to identify critical issues useful for planning protective and mitigation measures and initiating sustainable development.
It also represents an opportunity to enhance dialogue and cooperation among the peoples living in the region, as well as to stimulate deep thinking about this sea, contributing to the protection of its natural heritage and the renewal of its resources.
