US President Joe Biden said on Monday that the United States is "teeming with war weapons" and that he is determined to ban assault weapons that are often used in shooting incidents resulting in a large number of deaths.
Biden said in a statement at the White House, "I am determined to ban these weapons again.. I will not rest until we do that."
The US president signed a bill drafted by lawmakers from the country's two main parties to put controls on gun ownership.
Imposing restrictions on carrying weapons has been a controversial issue in the country for a long time, and attempts to introduce new controls on gun sales have repeatedly failed.
The Supreme Court announced last month, for the first time, that the US Constitution protects an individual's right to carry a handgun in public places for self-defense, which has increased the controversy surrounding the issue.
