Ontario Premier Doug Ford will make an announcement in Hamilton on Thursday morning. He will be joined by Minister of Transportation Caroline Mulroney.

The announcement will be broadcast live at 11 a.m. on CTV News Toronto and on the CTV News app. Little is known about the announcement, but the Progressive Conservative Party made several transportation-related promises as part of the 2022 budget.

A new GO station is planned to be built in East Hamilton as part of the Metrolinx expansion program. A public tender for the station's railway works – called Confederation Station – was issued in 2020.

Metrolinx said the station will include "an accessible platform, a pedestrian tunnel, direct stairway access from the platform to Centennial Parkway, and about 150 additional parking spaces."

The province has also committed $1.7 billion to fund a 14-kilometer light rail transit line in Hamilton.

The federal government has also committed the same amount of funding to the province, bringing the total investment to $3.4 billion. The 17-station line is expected to extend from Eastgate Square in Hamilton through the heart of downtown to McMaster University.
