The International Tourism and Travel Fair in Montreal (Le Salon International Tourisme Voyages) returned after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, bringing back this year more than one hundred tourist destinations worldwide, including Arab countries. Visitors can also obtain travel information to Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, the Sultanate of Oman, and Kuwait. Also, during a press meeting organized at the beginning of the fair, Sébastien Forêt, CEO of the travel agency ''Voyages Traditour'', explained that his company's activity ''has returned to 60% of its pre-pandemic level, similar to what is happening in the aviation sector...''. He added that the tourist destinations currently requested by his clients and increasingly in demand are Italy, Peru, Turkey, Thailand, Vietnam, Greece, England, and also Egypt. He stated that he formed several groups of Quebecois tourists to Egypt in the fall of 2020, but he had to cancel them due to the COVID-19 pandemic. His agency is not the only exhibitor offering tours to Egypt; Nevine Nasseem is the founder of the travel agency 'Miaterra' ''specializing in trips to the Middle East (Egypt, Jordan, and Turkey) and Morocco and Tunisia'', as she clarified in an interview with Radio Canada International, adding that she developed a travel concept that brings tourists closer to local residents. She also says that she gives her clients the opportunity to get close to the locals to learn about their way of life and daily routines by going to markets like local people. She explained that her agency ''organizes orientation courses about the country to be visited before each trip.'' She also offers a one-hour Arabic language course ''to help them learn common words such as greetings for simple conversation. Then, when the locals see that these visitors speak their language, they are pleased,'' Nevine Nasseem added. Before leaving Canada, the agency organizes visits to Egyptian, Moroccan, Tunisian, and other restaurants to allow travelers to discover the cuisines of these countries. This is part of the activities organized before the trip to strengthen the bonds among the traveling group members and avoid ''cultural shock upon arrival at the destination.'' Additionally, Nevine Nasseem confirms that after tourists return to Canada, ''after they have eaten Turkish, Egyptian, or Tunisian food, they will buy products available in Canada, which benefits the economies of these countries.'' In the same context, the Moroccan destination was present in an area gathering several agencies, including the Moroccan National Tourist Office. Nathalie Bélanger, Lahcen Nait, and Hamid are partners in the agency ''Expérience berbère tours'' specializing in tours discovering Berber culture in Morocco, where the latter confirms that demand for tours in Morocco is increasing in Quebec and Quebecers are not limited to going to Cuba or Mexico in winter. Lahcen Nait and Hamid, who take care of tourists upon their arrival in Morocco with a local partner, say that ''the majority of Quebecoise tourists love the desert and wandering on sand dunes on camels. Although Kuwait is not a popular tourist destination in Canada, Kuwait Airways was present at the International Tourism and Travel Fair. Savio Dias, Sales Manager for Kuwait Airways in the United States and Canada, explained that his company is participating for the fourth time in this fair.
According to the Kuwaiti community in Canada mainly consists of university students in Halifax, Montreal, and Toronto. Kuwait Airways also has a daily flight between New York and the Kuwaiti capital. This flight is an option for the Indian and Pakistani communities in Canada to reach their countries via Kuwait passing through New York.
