Canadian authorities announced yesterday, Sunday local time, the evacuation of more residents of the province of "Alberta" in the west of the country due to the wildfires affecting the country.
According to local news agencies, Canadian authorities have asked about 30,000 people to leave their homes in the province of Alberta, where firefighting teams are battling to control more than 20 active fires.
The Premier of Alberta, Danielle Smith, had announced last Saturday a "state of emergency" in the province, which is one of the most prominent in terms of oil production.
Some scattered light rain yesterday allowed firefighters to reach points that were previously inaccessible in the southern part of the province, according to Christie Tucker, spokesperson for the Alberta Wildfire Management Branch.
Canada has experienced a series of severe weather conditions over the past years, and massive wildfires that affected oil regions in 2016 led to production suspension and forced about 100,000 people to evacuate the Fort McMurray area.
