Discussions involving dozens of countries around the world continue in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, regarding the crisis in Ukraine, for the second consecutive day.

Yesterday, Saturday, discussions concluded with a formula presented by Ukraine on how to achieve peace, consisting of 10 points. The first day of talks also witnessed closed discussions and statements made by representatives of the participating delegations.

Forty-two countries are participating in the discussions, including Western nations, as well as India, Brazil, South Africa, and others. China has also announced its participation in the conference.

An European source told the French news agency "AFP" about a common ground regarding the key points, especially respecting "the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine," to be at the "heart of any peace agreement."

A French diplomatic source told the agency that "efforts are being combined to create conditions for constructive negotiations," adding, "Does today's meeting create those conditions? The clear answer is no. It is a long-term effort."

Moscow, which is not participating in the Jeddah meetings, stated that any negotiations should take into account "the new regional realities."

For his part, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said that his country will discuss the outcomes of the consultations regarding Ukraine with BRICS partners.

Certainly, such understanding is based on the results of the events in Jeddah and on relevant dialogue and exchanges of views between us and the BRICS participants who were there at various levels."
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's office stated this week that the meetings in Jeddah will focus on the peace formula that demands a return to Ukraine's previous borders, including the territories of Crimea annexed by Russia since 2014.
The talks in Jeddah come following meetings held in June in Copenhagen, which concluded without an official statement.
According to a senior White House official, U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan is leading the Washington delegation to Jeddah.

Gust Hilterman, the Middle East Program Director at the "International Crisis Group," said that "by hosting this meeting (about Ukraine), Saudi Arabia wants to strengthen its attempt to become a global mediating power capable of mediating conflicts."

He added that Riyadh "wants to be in the same trench as India or Brazil, as these mediating powers, if they work as a team, can hope to have an impact on the global stage as leaders of the renewed non-aligned movement."

For his part, Saudi analyst close to the government Ali al-Shihabi viewed that "these talks are a key example of the success of Saudi Arabia's multipolar strategy in maintaining strong relations with Ukraine, Russia, and China.
