Teaching foreign languages, especially English, to children at preschool age is a matter of great importance to parents around most countries of the world.

This is the age at which children develop, and the brain is prepared to succeed in language learning. Most people believe that this age is when children rely more on innate learning, and once the child reaches puberty, they tend to rely on more formal "skills" and "strategies" of learning.

Nevertheless, language teaching in preschool is linked to several other factors, such as the fact that school provides enough time to spend on learning, and then children continue their learning at home by watching television. Why do we start at age 3 or 4?

If you asked this question a few years ago, everyone would look at you strangely, as it was unreasonable for children under three years old to be able to learn a second language, considering that they had not yet mastered their native language. Research has shown that 50% of our learning ability develops by age 4 and another 30% by age 8.

This is why children at the age of three are encouraged to learn a second language. However, this does not mean that 80% of knowledge or intelligence is formed before reaching the age of 8.

It simply means that children develop their main learning pathways during the first few years of their lives according to their personalities, and children at age three or four can learn through play.

After adolescence, the brain changes and makes it very difficult for adults to learn a foreign language. This does not mean they cannot learn it. Only that they will not do it the same way a child does; because the mechanisms that help in language learning are not the same at ages 2-5.
