Montreal police announce the arrest of a suspected man, after he stabbed several people with a sharp tool in the city of Montreal.
The police stated in a statement that the suspect "26 years old" "stabbed his mother and her husband with a sharp tool, then stabbed another person in a neighboring apartment as well as a building guard who tried to intervene.
Local media reported that the police arrested a 26-year-old man after he stabbed his mother’s husband and his mother along with two other people on Sunday morning in downtown Montreal.
The 72-year-old stepfather was killed, while the other three who were stabbed are two women in their fifties and a 54-year-old man, and they are now in stable condition.
A 911 call at around 6:50 AM led emergency services to an apartment on Drummond Street, near Sherbrooke Street in Montreal, where it was found that the suspect stabbed his mother’s husband and mother before moving to another apartment, and it was later found that he stabbed a third person.
Montreal police spokesperson, Constable Marianne Allaire Morin, said that "a building guard tried to intervene and was stabbed."
Three victims were taken to hospital, while the stepfather was declared dead at the scene.
This is the thirteenth murder in Montreal in 2022.
The police arrested the suspect at the scene and he is in custody pending investigation.
Allaire Morin said, "A crime scene is currently being set up so that investigators can analyze the place and understand all the circumstances of the incident."
She explained that the police questioned several witnesses, and that the motive behind the murder is currently unknown.
