The short video app "TikTok" announced the allocation of resources and personnel to combat the spread of hate and misinformation, regarding the monitoring of any content related to the war of the Israeli occupation entity on Gaza.
The European Union's Commissioner for the Industry, Thierry Breton, gave TikTok 24 hours on Thursday to provide a detailed explanation of the measures taken to combat the spread of misinformation related to the Middle East conflict, and he also opened an investigation into the platform "X" (formerly Twitter) owned by Elon Musk.
TikTok, owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, revealed in a statement the actions it has taken, but refrained from disclosing how it specifically responded to Breton.
The app stated in a statement: "TikTok stands against terrorism... We are shocked and horrified by the horrific acts that occurred in Israel last week. We also feel deep sorrow regarding the worsening humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza."
TikTok also mentioned that its measures include launching a command center and enhancing its automated monitoring systems to remove any shocking or violent content, adding more content managers who speak both Arabic and Hebrew, and removing content that attacks or mocks victims of violence or incites violence.
The app added, according to the statement, restrictions on who has the right to use the live streaming feature, noting that it "cooperates with law enforcement agencies and is in contact with experts."
This comes just days after Meta announced the removal of more than 795,000 posts in Arabic and Hebrew, describing them as "disturbing or illegal" regarding the war of the occupying entity on Gaza.
The company stated in a statement reported by "Bloomberg" that it is working with fact-checkers who speak Hebrew and Arabic, to ban accounts and take necessary actions, after European Commissioner Thierry Breton informed the company's CEO Mark Zuckerberg and other social media executives that their platforms were responsible for a wave of illegal content related to the war between the occupying entity and "Hamas."
