A search and rescue operation is currently underway to locate the submarine that went missing during an exploratory trip to the Titanic shipwreck, as the US Coast Guard began the search operation on Monday morning after the submarine disappeared during the exploratory trip from Saint John, where the notorious shipwreck lies, which sank in 1912, more than 600 kilometers southeast of the province in the North Atlantic Ocean.
The trip to the Titanic was operated by "OceanGate Expeditions," a US-based company, using a submarine that accommodates five people called Titan to reach the wreckage located 3800 meters below the surface. The company's website announces a seven-night trip to the Titanic for $250,000 per person, approximately 330,000 Canadian dollars.
A company spokesperson told CTV News, "We are exploring and mobilizing all options to safely return the crew, and our full focus is now on the crew members in the submarine and their families."
